My fondest memories of ''the fun times'' was when my family went to the carnival. We got to go out into the night (a rare occurance) combined with all the lights and excitement, was more than we could have hoped for. Since I am not thrilled with heights, riding the merry-go-round was my favorite thing to do. I always tried to find the horse that looked like it went the highest.
However, the very best carousel I ever rode was at the Santa Monica pier. I'm not certain if the fact it was on the pier added to the thrill or if it really was better, I just know that I could hardly wait for the next time.
The Brass Ring
I remember the brass ring...always just out of my reach when I was younger. The brass rings were hung off to the side of the carousel and the object was for everyone to stretch out as far as they could and grab one...they then received another ride on the carousel for free...Boo hoo, I never got the brass ring, pout. Some carousels still have brass rings. There are some beautiful carousels still around. My family found a bunch in various states we visited. You might want to do an internet search for "carousel" to find where they are. There are a bunch of sites dedicated to carousel's and their locations.

Many amusement parks, especially by beaches, have Merry-Go-Rounds and Carousels. A lot of people collect wind up music boxes with Carousels because of the great memories they have with their families riding them. Have you rode a carousel? Do you remember what they looked like? Do you remember the animals that people could ride on them? Maybe you could draw a picture of your fun time on a Carousel and save it so you have that special memory.
