Arimouse had never been out of pumpkinville, never been to the big city, Elvesville, never even seen a citymouse! She was just a little ole country mouse who hated the pumpkin patch she and her family lived in. Her pumpkinhouse was comfortable and her mother had decorated it so that it was most cozy. She dearly loved her mom and dad....she just figured the big city had to be better than living in the country.
Soooooo, one day the cute little country mouse, AriMouse, packed her bag (run your mouse over AriMouse at the top of the page), and headed for the big city. AriMouse was in luck, the city bus was making it's daily stop to pick up the humans who were headed for the city and AriMouse hopped on board being very careful to steer clear of all the humans. Just as the bus was reaching the city limits, a very fancy country human noticed AriMouse and let out a shriek that hurt poor AriMouse's ears. Soon, all the bus passengers were stomping their feet, screaming and trying to get off the, now stopped, bus. AriMouse had heard that some humans were afraid of mice, but this was bizarre! Very carefully, AriMouse crept off the bus and onto the busy street.
Now, where to? Fortunately, the fancy human had waited to stir things up till they were in the city. AriMouse decided the best thing to do would be to look up her Uncle, JohnnyMouse. She remembered that he lived above a pizza place....good idea, since her uncle loved to eat. So she headed to,what she figured, was the right direction. She was soon hurrying faster thanks to a big-city rat that decided to give the little ole country mouse a bad time. Fast as her little legs could carry her, AriMouse arrived at the pizza place. Wow, that was exciting - in a scary sort of way.
Finally, AriMouse knocked on Uncle JohnnyMouse's mouse hole door. "Hmmmmm", AriMouse thought, "this place really smells and is noisy". "I did not think it would be like this". Deciding that it must surely be better inside of Uncle JohnnyMouse's place, she waited patiently. At last Uncle JohnnyMouse stuck his head out of the hole. "My dear neice! However did you get here and where are you parents?" remarked her uncle when he saw her. AriMouse explained that she was tired of the country and wanted to live in the city with her uncle. Her uncle quickly explained that the city was not the place for her and she would miss her parents but he would wait till the next day and take her home.
Later, after all the food places closed, Uncle JohnnyMouse and AriMouse ate pizza and hamburgers. AriMouse could not understand how all the mice could eat such unhealthy food everyday, all day, and stay healthy...plus her food back home tasted better. She could just about taste her mom's wonderful dinners of fresh corn, pumpkins, apples, peas and seeds. Oh dear, what was this little country mouse to do, she could not possibly live on this unhealthy food! Maybe it was good she was going home tomorrow.
Uncle JohnnyMouse decided it was past AriMouse's bedtime and they had to be up early the next morning to catch the country bus. AriMouse could not begin to sleep with all the city noises. She wondered when people slept in the city..it wasn't at night and it wasn't during the day. Good grief, but these city folks were strange. Before she knew it, her uncle was shaking AriMouse awake and they were running for the country bus.
Uncle JohnnyMouse knew all the nifty hiding places on the bus so no scared humans would throw a fuss and get them kicked off the bus. At long last, they arrived at Pumpkinville. AriMouse could hardly wait to get home and all the things she could understand and loved. Finally, they were in sight of AriMouse's house and for the first time, she saw her pumpkinhouse as a cozy, warm, quiet, loving house. She knew they would be treated to a wonderful, fresh, healthy dinner tonight.
Oh, it was so good to be home! How, could she ever think anywhere else in the world could ever be as good as this and AriMouse finally realized just how thankful she was for her little place in the pumpkin patch.
